Our first meeting at the Beulah Church and the first of the four contests of the 2015-16 Toastmasters year. Humourous Contest Chair Helen MacDonald organised a professional
Deb McAlpine ensured the audience was suitably prepared before the contest proper, exercising the funny bones and facial muscles with her ode to the “The Bathing Suit”.
Chief Judge Marcus van Irsel berated the club for supplying a measly 3 (three) competitor field, despite boasting the second largest membership in Christchurch. Boldly declaring that he would be back to judge the Boaters Toastmasters Humorous Contest 2016, he issued a challenge to us all: start writing our speeches now, a full complement of competitors is expected!

Congratulations to the three competitors: David Clarkson, Rodney Ford, and Esther Newman.

Thank you also to David Cooper for providing access to the fantastic temporary venue. Many members and guests commented on positive aspects of the venue, including the community feel, acoustics, lighting, and of course the coffee!
