“Variety in life”. That was the theme of Friday’s meeting and Boaters Toastmasters certainly contributes to that theme. We all bring something unique to the club and in turn gain so much from it. Toastmaster Brett shared some of the variety in his life, and throughout the meeting dropped in snippets of how others bring variety to their lives. Nicola’s word of the day, multifarious, was a fitting choice.
Another icebreaker speech this week, such a special speech when a new member introduces themselves to the club; and this meeting we were treated to an intrepid journey into the life of Danny de Hek, a snapshot of his life so far. Next up was John MacVicar who returned to his youth and captivated us with a wonderful insight into growing up on the Isle of Skye and his delightful holidays on the island of Hosda. Sandra’s speech project was on Interpersonal Communication and how to diffuse criticism, ably assisted in the role play by John Kenny.
Just about everyone who didn’t have a scheduled role was given the opportunity to speak in Colin’s ‘same or different’ themed Table Topics, including our guests, Jason and Khan. Well done both for taking up the challenge on your first visit; we look forward to seeing you again at the club.
The Humorous Speech and the Table Topics contests are coming up very soon. These contests are great fun, are open to all members, so give them a go.
