Our Toastmaster Greg McGeorge introduced the theme of the meeting; Our Planet. The meeting flowed well with examples of global warming used to smooth the way between speakers. The most disturbing idea being that with global warming Champagne would no longer come from France, but from the south east of England.
Charlene Hails, a Civil Engineer, gave a fascinating speech on the renovation of the Arts Centre Chemistry building. Being her second speech with Boaters, Charlene has learnt enough to give a fantastic speech to her work colleagues. All the best from us all Charlene.

Brent Chatterton joined Boaters so that he could be proficient giving speeches to large groups. He has spoken to a group of 500 recently. Brents speech on his Coat to Coast race was well received. Training up to 40 hours per week, cramping on the run and then in the boat, and completing the event in under 15 hours really entertained us. We felt for Brent while drinking our coffee, and eating our muffins in front of a roaring fire. Well done on your 4th speech with Boaters Brent.

John MacVicar gave a heart felt speech on his journey from a shy lad in Scotland to a public speaker. John delivered the speech without notes. John has come a long way from avoiding public speaking to delivering an intelligent, humorous, and engaging speech.

Table Topics were challenging and whacky this week. I was not saved from speaking by writing the blog and had to imitate Donald Trump. Alana Bogart was a dead ringer for Helen Clark. Our guest Suzanne did a great job on speaking about recycling. Brent Snow convinced us all that plants had feelings. David Clarkson did such a great job on talking about the environment that he won the award for the meeting; the plastic toaster with a slice of inedible bread in it.

It was a very enjoyable meeting. Thank you to the Rurus who made us jealous by reporting in from biking in the Rockies. We look forward to hearing more in a speech when you return.
